Expomaderas S.A. is a company created in 1995, for teak wood (tectona
grandis) reforestation purposes. Good soil quality in the nutritional
and structural points of view, and proper rainfall conditions found
in Costa Rica’s northern region have given the best conditions
for development projects to take place in this area, in which several
development sites have been established to the present day.
At the moment, improvements in the plantation technique field
are being researched, thus helping obtain first quality material
in the plant nursery sector. Elements such as the forestry fertilizer
pellet pot (commercial label: Jiffy) have been incorporated in order
to get optimum results in the nutritional balance of the early plant
stages. All the trees and plants come from seeds authorized by the
National Bureau of Seeds. In the year 2002, Expomaderas certifies
the greenhouse plant generating process with the Costa Rica National
Bureau of Seeds, with the purpose of guaranteeing first quality
results products in the plant nursery field. During year 2002, 9
development cores in a 1700 hectares area were successfully established.
Furthermore, an aggressive first-quality superior teak wood program
was initiated by the means of selecting trees that presented superior
quality. A research program was implemented in a 5000 hectares area,
obtaining 100 superior trees (plus quality) with ideal quality conditions
to begin reproduction. During year 2004, Expomaderas issued the
first high-quality plantation sites, with the purpose of improving
of bettering overall plantation quality and obtaining a product
with unbeatable growth characteristics.
